My entries for Project 2034 .
This work is published from:
United States.
So you've seen my video... but you still have questions! I am always working in my clarity but I do think I'm a lot better texting intent than I am speaking, so if you have doubts, I will do my best to help you with that.
What is Project 2034?
Project 2034 is my pitch to...everyone, to create a collective universe full of characters for everyone to use when Superman becomes Public Domain, there's already characters and mythos that anyone can draw from on that day.
So that when that day comes , creators don't have to necessarily produce an entire Superman cast whole cloth.
How do I participate in Project 2034?
Simply create one or more characters or element and release it as Creative Commons. You don't have to write the whole character's life and misadventures, though you're welcome to be indepth.
Make a character you think would feel at home in Superman stories in 15 years and would compensate for all the characters people won't be able to use, either power wise or drama wise,And then you show me your creation and in Jan 1 2022 I will make a video about all the creations people did. Send it to Drawnder@gmail.com or @ Drawnder on Tweeter.
But what if two people make the same idea?
Like ok, I did most of the characters I'd add to, and some of them may overlap with your ideas for Project 2034. That's great actually.
There aren't any dibs in Project 2034. We aren't competing to see who makes the best Black Zero knock off. In fact having a choice is kinda good in my eyes. Don't be discouraged if somebody came up with a similar idea.
Is WB gonna sue me for participating in this or for using the characters for it?
For participating on it probably not. I could probably try to make a drawing of Superman and release it under Creative Commons right here and they won't even find out.
As for using the characters from it, I can't quite guarantee it, because they can sue you for things they don't even own, as seen before. They might sue you. No promises.
To minimize this project ending in a bunch of lawsuits, I recommend the following:
-Don't make your character so close to a DC one that they can put them side by side and say it's the same characters. If you're character is just Doomsday with a bowtie or like Steel with a Mustache, then it's possible people using it could get sued. Of course, people using it also have a responsibility. If the character is too similar then...don't use that or change it just enough. Use strong judgement.
-Don't make the character's story be exactly similar to another character's Wiki entry. Make their backstory short and vague and add at least two details that are unique. The people using the character will decide to add or remove more as they see fit.
-Don't publicly allude to which character is inspiring you! This might be later used against you or whoever in court. While it's unlikely they'll chase down a 15 year old post on the Deviant Art forums just to prove it was copyright infringement, unlikely isn't impossible. ESPECIALLY DON'T DO THIS ON THE VERY POST WHERE YOU'RE RELEASING THE WORK. Be smart.
Do:
Don't:
Ok but what's in it for me? I give away a free character and then get nothing back?
No, you're not giving away the character. You can still use it for yourself, if you think the character has potential. Somebody could popularize the character...and then you, creator of the character, still have access to using it yourself. You're losing nothing.
What you get is: If the idea of working on Supeman once he becomes public domain is something you'd like, or maybe not yourself but you'd like other people to do it, then a collective pool of potential characters to draw from could help people in that not so distant future.
If this project gets off of the ground what you get is a vibrant, collective universe of Superman characters that anyone can expand upon. If that sounds like something you'd want to happen, then you can support the project, by creating for it, or just sharing it with people and letting them know about it.
What's in it for you?
Nothing that you won't also get.
See, to me characters like Superman oughta be Public Domain already, but thanks to copyright extensions in the 90's and 70's that's been put off. I consider this robbing us of works we deserve. And even if they somehow undid it tomorrow, the time can never be brought back. I will be mid 40's when these characters finally lapse.
And you know, I could just sit here and grumble about it and already have sat here and grumbled about it. But I think besides that, we can at least take a shot at doing something that will partially undo the harm these copyright extensions have done, and time is on our side.
You mentioned other characters...
Yes, Batman was created a year after Superman, and shortly after that Wonder Woman. A project like this but for those characters is something we can get going, Spider-Man,hmm...
Like for Spider-Man, you're looking at 2057. We can do it but...will you even be alive to see it?
Personally I'm down but...let's see if anyone's interested in these closer ones, first.
Or don't. If you're really gonna send it to the far future, you don't need my permission. I'm into time capsuling, myself.
So it's a good opportunity as any to restate The Future is Stupid's mantra: To compare fictional visions of the future with the actuality of that year. I've already made a lot of posts that you won't see and where I basically restate that vision and ask the future dwellers if the future they are living is anything like the past though it would be. And they hopefully reply in the comments but I'll be fucking long dead.
For example I would ask you like "Hey are there ninjas and brain men fighting mutant turtles hovering in discs?
But uh unless something goes real weird between now and March uh... probably not. Not that these are mundane or boring times, just that hover tech isn't there and that our villains aren't quite as brainy...but way badder.
Watch this space where hopefully I won't ommit obvious entries like this again.
Hello, futurenauts! This post was written in 2012, but is schedjuled to debut in 2019, as a reminder of what we set out we, as a species, thought you had in store for us. After all, the future is uncertain. Here in 2012 we refer to an ancient calendar as a sign of endtimes. But if you are reading this, this means we're stupid to do so.
What did we expect from 2019, the year you are in? Well according to 1993's Outrun 2019 you are big into racing, but the kind of racing where it's more like a timed course on light traffic.
We have an inkling you enjoy painting large skull decals into your cars back windows. Is this true? That doesn't seem very futuristic.
However, the game does say you'll have super speedboosting turbines on at least the higher end models of your cars. perhaps this are so rare, you decided not to use them to race directly against other cars?
Are you impressed at our pastly prophetic capacities? Chime in!

| Too Big Too Fail but...ACTUALLY too big to fail. |
And you may be wondering: "What can I do? I'm just a man and/or Woman!"
Well lucky for you, there are some things you can do, personally, to help fight climate change that are easy and fun!

5) Plant Trees
The ecosystem has been quite diminished by our high demand post industrial age. Simply put if you keep taking trees out of the environment and don't put them back, well, ecosystems can collapse.
So let's plant some right on The CEO of Exxon's ass!
It may take years for a tree to grow, but the positive effects will be immediate if the roots of the tree grow deep within the colon of the billionaire whose company obfuscated the truth about the environment for decades, just for his own profiteering.
Should you not have that available, former CEO's asses can work too.

4) Change your eating habits
Look we all love meat. Even vegetarians. If you've ever tried to eat one you know it's true.
But as painful as it is, The meat industry is helping accelerate climate change. So reducing or eliminating farmed meat from your diet is a painful but necessary part of limiting the damage we cause.
But it doesn't have to be a boring drag. There are quite a few good eats that are plant based, meat substitutes that are quite delicious, and if you still need meat, you can always eat a Koch.
That's right! Instead of leaving a carbon footprint every time you attack the plate, eat a delicious Billionaire who promote not only climate denialism world wide, but also The Far Right in General. If you eat a Koch brother every day, by the third day you will have done a lot to reduce the carbon footprint!

3) Harness The Sun
The suns heat may be part of the problem, but it can be part of the solution! There's many ways to use th sun to our advantage, but just to name a few.
Save energy by drying your clothes in the sun. Hook up your house with solar powered panels. Shoot the entire Republican Party into the sun.
Sure these are small changes. We're not gonna get out of this just by doing all this. But if at least half of you go solar and find a way to shoot into the sun a party that is entirely beholden to the corporate interests that don't care about condemning our future, it'd go a long way towards changing things for the better.

2) Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
I know. It sounds corny. but it's true: we throw out billions of things into thrash heaps every day. The way we consume has a cumulative effect.
So here's some of what we can do.
Reduce:
Your support for the American military.
Reuse:
Old plastic water bottles to drink water again.
Recycle:
Anything that's recyclable, obviously.
Sure, if a single person keeps a single water bottle out of the garbage or stops readily cheering for a war machine that puts tons of carbon in the air every day it might not make much of a difference, but if millions do it we might see some change.

1) Start a conversation
Now, there are many people who do not believe in Climate Change, and approaching them with the topic may be difficult.
So bring it up in casual conversations. Try this approach:
"Hey! I brought you some food. Are those shackles too tight?
Listen I wanted to talk about climate change. imagine this basement was the Earth. You can't escape either. And that feces all over the walls was carbon. You see how it accumulates?"
See? You use metaphors to get your point across. Be patient. Sometimes people will just go away without seemingly making up their minds. But be consistent, firm and get your hounds to find them and bring them back.
And that's some of the ways you can help stave off climate change. What are some of the ways you are fighting climate change but without demanding an overhaul of the entire system upon which our lives are predicated? Comment below!
